Detroit Edison U30C 018 at Toledo Lang

In the early 1970's Detroit Edison purchased its own small fleet of U30C's and SD40-2's because Penn Central was unable to provide a consistant supply of motive power for the flood of trains moving coal from Monongahela mines to its new, huge Monroe Michigan power station. Here are two examples of their purchase tied in with a trio of GTW units at Lang Yard.

Toledo Lang Yard is now a major holding area for steam coal off of the C&OBU and Monongahela bound for the Lansing Board of Water and Light, Detroit Edison, and Consumer's Energy power plants, and metallurgical coal to Rouge Steel and Great Lakes Steel.
