Handwritten note: "Uncle Harry's House on Territorial Rd."
Territorial Road in the early 20th Century meant what we know today as US-12. As the name suggests, it was the first road to span the Western Territory of Michigan before it was admitted as a state in the Union (North Territorial Road was the second such path). This house was considered to be an "old house" by the time this photo was taken. The sunlight falling on the front indicates that the house, and the farm that it is a part of, is on the north side of the road.
